Clash of the Worlds (2/3). The Mahdi uprising in the Sudan of the 1880s saw Muhammad Ahmed, a
self-styled descendant of the Muslim Prophet, declare "jihad" against the British. He killed the
British Army general, Charles Gordon, in Khartoum in 1885 and then set up an Islamic state. The film
explores the British religious and political backlash that followed Gordon's death. 7pm BBC2
Wedding Feasts. In marrying a man outside her Jewish community, Nina is convinced she can escape the
confines of her upbringing. Events prove her wrong. Tracy-Ann Oberman reads Naomi Alderman's story.
