a blueprint for moral behaviour for generations. But just how relevant are
the directives to peoples lives today? Leading commentators from the
religious political and media spheres offer their opinions of the new

My Favourite Hymns Composer John Tavener talks about his faith and how he
believes he is guided by God in this weeks programme of this long-running

Spring Journey: Forgiveness In this new four- part series the Bishop of
Durham, Dr Tom Wright, goes on a spiritual journey, reflecting in words and
music on the problems and challenges that confront society today. R3

Lent Talks. The third in this Lent series - Michael Maloney reads Jim Burke
s story on the temptation to be too religious. R4 5.40pm (repeated the

Sacred Nation The series continues a look at Britains historic pluralistic
approach to religion and faith. This edition looks at the Norman invasion
of 1066 and its complex religious ramifications. R2 8pm
Drama on 3: The Gospel According to Mary Magdalene An all-star cast
portrays two stories of devotion, love and death, set in Palestine 2000
years ago and Britain today. Jane Lapotaire takes the part of Mary
Magdalene. R3 8pm
Panorama: Scotlands Hidden Shame Wearing the wrong colour football top
can lead to violence and even death. Two communities, Protestant and
Catholic, historically divided, reveal their tribal loyalties in support for
Rangers and Celtic. It should be about football rivalry but the songs and
the chants are now under the criminal spotlight. BBC1 10.15pm

Hungry for Heaven The second and final programme looks at those who have
changed spiritual direction since becoming pop stars. Guests include van
Morrison, Pete Townshend and the ubiquitous Cliff Richard. R 8.30pm

Coronation Street has another wedding. This time its Ken and Deidre -
again. ITV1 7.30pm
Thursday 3 March
Crossing Continents Todays programme in this series looks at Dover in
rural Pennsylvania. The eyes of the world are now firmly fixed on this
small town after its high school became the first in America for several
generations to introduce creationism into its biology curriculum as an
alternative to evolution. The move is part of a radical new agenda being
promoted by an increasingly confident Christian Right. R4 11am
Leading Edge Scientists at Oxford University are to torment volunteers by
applying painful chilli gel to their skin. By asking these people to use
their religious faith to cope with the pain, while monitoring their brain
activity, researchers hope to learn how religious belief manifests itself in
the brain. R4 9pm

Ramblings This weeks walk is on the Northamptonshire/Oxfordshire border.
Childrens author Meg Harper finds that walking provides her with the peace
and space she needs for prayer and contemplation. Clare Balding joins her
