Authorised services
The principal services authorised and commended for use in the Diocese of Ely are the same as elsewhere in the Church of England: the Book of Common Prayer; Common Worship; and some others.
Other services are authorised for use in the Diocese of Ely. These include:
- The Institution and Induction of a new Priest (authorised by the Bishop of Ely, 1998)
To assist parish clergy responsible for preparing orders of service for Baptisms and Confirmations, the Bishop of Huntingdon has revised the guidance material and the four variant forms of service available on the website. Below, you will find :
- General Notes
- Confirmation within the Celebration of Holy Communion
- Confirmation at a Service of the Word
- Baptism and Confirmation within the Celebration of Holy Communion
- Baptism and Confirmation at a Service of the Word
The orders are easy to adapt for local use. Remember that draft orders of service should be sent to the Bishop who is conducting your confirmation service about two weeks in advance.

The Church of England has published the definitive texts of its authorised liturgical material at its Common Worship website.
Simon Kershaw has compiled an unofficial calendar of holy people associated with the Diocese of Ely called Singing the Song, including collects, readings and biographical notes.
