Saturday 4 February

Hidden Treasures   the last in this early morning series highlights another
church – Sinclair Seamen’s church in Belfast.  Close by the M3 flyover is a
beautiful Victorian church with a thoroughly nautical interior.   Introduced

Sunday 5 February

Bells on Sunday  This short, weekly slot comes today from St Mary’s Church,
Shalford, Surrey.  5.43am R4

Something Understood  Mark Tully is the regular presenter of this programme
which reflects on a theme through music and poetry.    6.05am  R4  Repeated
at 11.30pm.

Aled Jones – Good Morning Sunday    today’s guest is singer Kiki Dee.  7am

Sunday Worship  from St John’s-Renfield Church in Glasgow.  8.10am  R4

The Heaven and Earth Show  This weekly magazine is hosted by Kate Gerbeau
and Max Flint.  One of today’s guests Moazzam Begg, the ex-Guantanamo Bay
captive, who talks about faith and freedom.  10am BBC 1

Divine Designs   this repeated series begins with a look at the religious
art of Winchester cathedral.  12.30 Ch5

The Early Music Show  Motets by Wert and Gesualdo’s Tenebrae Responsories
for Holy Saturday performed by the BBC Singers and recorded at St George’s
Church, Belfast.  1pm R3

Songs of Praise  meets unsung heroes nominated by BBC viewers and listeners.
5.15pm BBC1

The Choir  this week Aled Jones meets Westminster Abbey organist James O’
Donnell and historian Roy Strong to look at the rich tradition of choral
music written for royal ceremonies.  There is a perspective on the last
coronation from two former Abbey choristers and a conversation with the
Master of the Queen’s Music.  6.30pm R3

Sunday Half Hour  Roger Royle explores the many ways in which people serve
others.   8.30pm R2


Monday 6 February

Beyond Belief  Ernie Rea and his guests explore what makes an authentic
religion.  4.30pm R4


Tuesday 7 February

Who Killed Christianity?  5/5  In the last of the series, Pope John II
stands accused of distorting or betraying the Christian faith.  9.30am R4

Composer of the Week  Haydn is the star all this week, and today’s programme
highlights his time as Master of the Chapel at the Esterhazy court.


Wednesday 8 February

Choral Evensong  this act of worship is live from St Paul’s Cathedral   4pm

A Seaside Parish  6/10   The Cathedral choir’s opening fund-raising concert
is not a success – but later, after we’ve seen the choristers at Polwhele
School, money does start to come in. In Boscastle, work at last starts
re-building the famous Harbour Light shop, and a new gig-racing club is
formed. At St. Enoder, we see Pat Robson fund-raising for her White Cross
mission for Romanian orphans – then she goes to Penzanze Magistrates Court
for a speeding offence, but miraculously she escapes a driving ban.  7pm

A Passion for Churches    St Mary’s Orchardleigh.  Has the church become the
ultimate wedding accessory or is the marriage service bringing people back
to God?  The beautiful church at Orchardleigh in Somerset has become a
favourite spot for couples tying the knot but a new vicar is determined to
reduce the number.   The series takes a break and returns on 1st March.

The Moral Maze   3/10  A new series of these live debates is underway.
Melanie Phillips, Ian Hargreaves, Michael Portillo and Steven Rose cross
examine expert witnesses on the moral issues behind the week’s news.     8pm

Thursday 9 February

A treat for insomniacs:
Opus Dei and the Da Vinci Code  an early-early morning repeat for this
programme which asks if Dan Brown’s bestseller provides an accurate picture
of the secretive Catholic organization.  1.25am Ch4

The Real Patron Saints  An examination of the myths and contradictions
surrounding the saints of Gt Britain and Ireland  (repeat) 2.25am Ch4

Jewish Law  1/3  a portrait of Manchester’s Orthodox Jewish community.
(repeat) 4.25am Ch4  continues  on Friday 3.20am and Saturday  3am.


Friday 10 February

Judge John Deed   Something happens in church in this episode.  The cast
list includes a “Reverend Fox” and the story line has the judge “desperate”
to stop Jo Mills’ wedding.  8.30pm BBC1

The Daily Service:  This  live 15-minute service which has been broadcast
each weekday since 1928 is the longest running radio programme in
