Saturday 5 March

Is Superman Jewish?    A lighthearted piece which asserts that Clark Kent,
the embodiment of Truth, Justice and the American Way, was found, like
Moses, in the bulrushes - albeit in Middle America.  Novelist Howard
Jacobson stretches the theory.     R4  3.30pm

Opera on 3:  Live from the Met: Samson et Dalila  Sex and religion are the
driving forces in Saint-Saens’s opera, based on the biblical story from the
Book of Judges.   R3  6.30pm

Who wants to be a Mullah?  Part of an evening of programmes offering
insights into the contemporary lives of British Pakistanis, this particular
programme looks at one man’s personal quest to challenge the demonising
image of the “mad mullah” and asks whether current Imams can connect with
young British Muslims.   BBC2 10.45pm


Sunday 6 March

Lent Talks continue with Miriam Margolyes reading a short story about the
desire for revenge.     Repeated next Saturday.     R4   5.40pm

Sacred Nation   This edition recalls Britain’s historically pluralistic
approach to religion and faith in the period from the 14th century to the
Reformation.   R2  8pm


Tuesday 8 March

The Long View  Jonathan Friedland and his guests look at Jeremy Collier’s “A
Short View of Immorality and Profaneness of the English Stage”, published in
1698, and take a long view on the tensions between moral and religious
outrage and freedom of expression.  R4 9am


Wednesday 9 March

Beverley’s Gospel Nights continues with more top acts from the world of
gospel music:  The Harlem Gospel Choir, the London Community Gospel Choir
and two guests from the group Destiny’s Child.  R2 9pm

The Reverend Al Green   This new series of four programmes takes a look at
soul singer, songwriter and pastor Al Green whose music bridges the gap
between gospel and soul.  R2 10pm


Thursday 10 March

Faith to Faith   In this series, believers from across a religious divide
spend time in each other’s community to discover the reality behind the
hype, headlines and prejudice.    R4 8pm


Friday 11 March

Evening Concert presents Bach’s St John Passion with the choir of New
College Oxford     Classic FM  9pm
Antiques Roadshow Comes to Dibley is part of the mix for Comic Relief night
BBC1 9pm
