this work for singers, players and dancers caused a storm of controversy at
its first performance in 1971. 5.45pm R3
Dont Panic, Im Islamic With nearly two million Muslims living in Britain,
a new generation has grown up knowing only this country as its home. This
documentary finds out what it really means to be a Muslim living in
present-day Britain. 7pm BBC2
The Vicar of Dibley Dibley decides to celebrate the new millennium by
erecting a statue. Guest appearance by Jeremy Paxman. 8.20pm BBC1

Composer of the Week: Ralph Vaughan Williams each day 12 noon R3
Square Peg in a Round Hole The life and opinions of English clergyman and
essayist Sydney Smith whose outlook on life is as entertaining now as it
was two hundred years ago. Monday to Friday this week 3.30pm R4
Spiritual Shopper Hindu yoga, Christian meditation, helping in the
kitchen of a Sikh Gurdwara, and performing Christian gospel music. All
included tonight in the second programme of this 3-part series which
introduces spiritual practices to the non-religious. 8pm Ch4
Tuesday 14 June
Big Ideas that Changed the World 3/6 In this programme Archbishop
Desmond Tutu looks at Christianity. He speaks movingly about his life and
how his faith gave him strength and conviction in his struggle against
apartheid. 7.15pm Ch5
Wednesday 15 June
Choral Evensong returns to its regular slot, with the service today coming
from Worcester cathedral. 4pm R3
Thursday 16 June
Composer of the Week: Vaughan Williams. Todays lunchtime programme
includes excerpts from his only oratorio, Sancta Civitas 12.00 noon R3
The Riot that Never Was 12 years before Orson Welles terrified America
with his War of the Worlds radio broadcast, a mischievous Catholic priest,
Father Ronald Knox, had done the same on the BBC. Presenter Ray Snoddy
finds that the then BBC managing director John Reiths reaction was a
surprising one. 11.30 R4FM
