Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols  Live from the chapel of Kings College
Cambridge        3pm R4   and   5.15pm BBC2

Story of Carols    The story of some of this country’s favourite carols.

Midnight Masses   Radio Times writes that “While some people are stuffing
the turkey, the British clergy are putting the finishing touches to Midnight
Mass.  With church numbers decreasing and the age of the congregation
increasing this is their one chance to speak to those people in their
community they wouldn’t normally see.  The programme witnesses preparations
in three very different churches and speaks to some of the people whose only
church experience is this one night of the year.”   7.15pm R4

Gordon Ramsay’s Christmas F Word    Picked from thousands of applicants, a
vicar’s wife from Harrogate will feature in this Christmas edition.  Ruth
Sowerby, wife of the Team Rector of St Wilfrid’s Church, Harrogate, will be
seen being taught to cook an alternative Christmas dinner – in between
visits to church.          8pm Ch4

Father Ted      Involves Fr Ted and Dougal,  lost in a lingerie department.

Carols by Candlelight    Aled Jones introduces this programme of carols from
the Chapter House Choir of York Minster.    11pm R2

Midnight Mass  Live from Corpus Christi Church in Leeds, with the Rt Revd
Arthur Roche, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Leeds.  11.15pm R4

Christmas Eve Service  From Norwich cathedral, the bishop is joined by
singers and readers including Katherine Jenkins and Carol Smilie.

Midnight Mass  Live from Gloucester cathedral in a service led by the

Sunday 25 December

Songs of Praise  Andrea Bocelli is one of the guests at this special
Christmas edition, recorded at the Albert Hall.    11am BBC1

Desert Island Discs  Sue Lawley’s guest is the composer John Rutter who
celebrated his 60th birthday this year   11.15am R4 and repeated on Friday
at 9am.

The Simpsons  This Christmas special finds Homer standing in for the
Revd Lovejoy  6pm  Sky One

Tsunami: Where was God  As the Asian tsunami waters receded and the relief
operation began, religious leaders across the world found themselves
grappling with the age old questions about the existence of God.  Former
Dominican friar Mark Dowd meets survivors of the disaster.  7.50pm Ch4

The Organ Transplant    Radio Times opines that British church organs
languish unplayed as congregations shrink and fashions in music and worship

Narnia Day   BBC7  is devoting itself to CS Lewis and Narnia today – from

A Passion for Churches   The first of 12 programmes about remarkable people
and their battles to preserve British churches.  Tonight’s programme focuses
on St Hywyn’s church in Aberdaron, North Wales.
