St Etheldreda's Day Pilgrimage to Ely Cathedral - Saturday 18 June 2005

This year the Cathedral is celebrating the anniversary of its founding
saint, Etheldreda, with a pilgrimage.

The pilgrimage, which marks the conclusion of the Diocesan Festival of
Learning, ‘Following Jesus Today’, will draw together the many events of the
Festival, and strengthen the bonds between the Cathedral and the Diocese.

This will be a day for all the family.  You can arrange a parish or deanery
group.  Join in worship and praise, and take part in a range of lunchtime
events and workshops – plus activities for children and young people.  Bring
a picnic lunch.

For those who want a bit extra, three walks to the Cathedral are being

The preacher is Brother Sam, SSF, Vicar of St Bene’t’s, Cambridge, who will
speak at the opening service, 'Pilgrimage Praise - Following Jesus Today' at
11.30 am.

At 2.30 pm Bishop Anthony will preside at the 'Pilgrimage Eucharist - Being
the Church Today', and the day will end by 4.00 pm.

A main theme of the day will be the launch of a Lay Community for the
Diocese, ‘The Community of St Etheldreda’.  It is designed to help those who
wish to focus their spiritual life through joining with others and
adopting a simple Rule of Life.  It is hoped the Community of St Etheldreda
will have wide appeal, and further details will be published in advance.

As part of this theme the workshops and events will focus on healing, prayer
and spiritual growth.
