St Andrew’s has had a branch of the Mothers’ Union for over a hundred years. The present branch, with over fifty members is flourishing and meets twice a month, usually in the Johnson Hall. The evening meeting is at 8pm on the third Thursday, while afternoon meetings are held on fourth Thursdays at 2.15 pm.

There is a varied and well-balanced programme with speakers on a wide range of subjects. Members also support special Mother’s Union events, activities and projects in the diocese and further afield, such as the AFIA (Away From It All holiday scheme), help for women’s refuges, knitting “teddies for tragedies” and premature babies’ clothes and many more.

The Mother’s Union is a worldwide Christian organisation within the Anglican Communion, begun in 1876 and now numbering 3.6 million members active in 78 countries. It’s slogan is “Christian Care for Families” and it lives up to this I many practical and prayerful ways.
