Parish of St. Mary the Virgin, Linton

Witness and Outreach

Our Church welcomes both families who bring their children for baptism and older children and adults who are thinking about taking this step themselves. Baptisms usually take place during the 9.45 am Sunday service on the 4th Sunday of each month so that those who are newly baptised can be welcomed by the whole congregation. A Baptism Group seeks to keep in touch with families over a five-year period, with a member of the Baptism Group acting as link person with each family. A photograph is requested and displayed in church, so that members of the congregation can pray for those being baptised during the preceding week. A service is held each term for the families of all who have been recently baptised.

Tots n' Tow is a mother and baby/toddler group which meets in the Village Hall each Wednesday from 10 am to 11.30 am. The group has a Christian ethos and its aim is to support parents with young children. Older children are welcome, and helpers without children are present to listen and give general support. Each session includes the singing of a few choruses and a closing prayer.

A Lay Pastoral Care Group is made up of eight parishioners each having responsibility for a distinct geographical area within the village. Each member endeavours to be aware of any pastoral needs of villagers within their area and in addition to welcome newcomers to the parish, providing information about the village and church activities.
