In 2007, St Mary’s Church held its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday 24 November, raising funds for the church and offering an enjoyable afternoon for children and adults alike who attended.
The event raised £1,200 for the church, and provided 19 stall holders an opportunity to sell their goods in the early stages of the Christmas season.
Father Christmas was visited by over 80 children who each took their turn at searching through his “bran-tub” for a gift of their choice. Two young people organised their own stalls, with support from their parents: Martha Cassells selling her handmade jewellery and Sam Clayton, “Stuff 4 Christians.” Refreshments were plentiful and on hand, thanks in large part to Pam Richardson and family, and a team of able assistants.
New stalls this year included “Nearly New Accessories” from Rosemary Read, Christian Books and CDs from Adrian and Louise Rose, and ceramics from Susan Van Valkenburg. Jean Wheeler offered a huge and beautiful array of Traidcraft goods for sale, and the Friends of St Mary’s brought their excellent inventory of gifts and cards, displaying images of our parish church. The raffle, ably organised by Kate France and Ruth Franks, offered over 70 prizes. Kate was particularly pleased that the prizes were “given so generously and cheerfully not only by members of the congregation but also local businesses.”
Co-chairs of the event were Tereza Webb, Lydia Collinge and Dana Mills-Powell and who together wish to thank all who participated and attended the Christmas Bazaar in 2007.
