Bishop David has the Cambridge University
Boat Team to tea

By ancient tradition the Cambridge University Boat Club come to tea at the Bishop’s in Ely every January. However, as the Bishop of Ely is preparing to move, they were hosted to tea this year by the Rt Revd David Thomson, the Bishop of Huntingdon, at his home in Ely.
Bishop David presented the squad with an Eltheldreda Pilgrim Badge for their boathouse and received in return a copy of the book “The Battle of the Blues”. He also pledged to cheer on Cambridge despite having a degree from both Oxford and Cambridge so having had divided loyalites in the past!
The Cambridge crew are out on the river in Ely most days, taking advantage of the far quieter waters. Interestingly the 1944 Boat Race was raced on the Ouse at Ely, the only time it has not been held on the River Thames. Sadly won that year by Oxford!
