Fresh Expressions
A Fresh Expression is a form of church for our changing culture, established primarily for the benefit of people who are not yet part of any church. It has resulted in hundreds of new congregations being created alongside more traditional congregations.
There are already dozens of examples of Fresh Expressions on our Diocese. We will be featuring many of these soon on this website so please do email in your own examples, stories and photos to
The Revd David Male was appointed in 2006 by the Bishop of Ely as half-time Diocesan Fresh Expressions Adviser. David's appointment was in response to the 2007 Tearfund Report on "Church Going" which suggested that two thirds of adults in England are not open to going to church as they understand it. This has led to a flood of new and exciting initiatives being developed and put in place to attract the interest of people right outside the Church.

Bishops' Mission Orders
What is a Bishop's Mission Order?
It is a new opportunity in the Church of England created by the Dioceses, Pastoral and Mission Measure 2007 and the Code of Practice with it.
The Measure allows bishops to issue a Bishop's Mission Order (BMO)where a church planting initiative would cross parish boundaries or involve collaboration between parishes. A BMO is not needed for a church plant within a parish. But if the plant takes root, a BMO could be a helpful means to aid the plantto maturity - for example, to help it be recognised as part of the overall governance of the parish.
