Julia brings a wide range of experiences of children's work and has developed new ministries for different age-groups in a variety of settings, including rural Norfolk, Nottingham, Chatham and Milton where her husband, David, is currently Rector. She has four children. Julia previously taught Key Stage 1 pupils at a church school in this Diocese.
Greetings from Julia
It is such a privilege to work with children, and I am looking forward to getting to know you and what God is doing in your parishes, as you seek to engage with children and to nurture their faith and relationship with God.
Our Diocese encompasses a wide variety of communities and within each one there are many children who are yet to discover God’s love for themselves. Reaching children and their families is a ‘risky’ business, it challenges our preferences and traditions yet the rewards of sharing the Christian faith with them are ‘life changing’.
We need to encourage and build one another up in our work with children, and to take every opportunity to ensure that we are as well trained and resourced as we can be. My prayer is that God’s passion for every child will encourage and sustain our call to mission, and take us forward together in imaginative and practical ways to grow faith among the children and families in our communities.
Julia Chamberlin
Diocesan Children’s Work Adviser
Children are a fundamental part of the Church of God. Without children, we are incomplete, without children we have no future. They are also part of God’s whole world, and the Church’s mission in and to that world must involve mission to children.
As our society changes, so the experience of children is changing and the way churches, PCCs and individual ministers relate to children must constantly grow and develop too. This is not to say that the way forward is an unending quest for new ideas.
The Diocesan Children’s Council works with and supports Julia Chamberlin, our Children’s Work Adviser. Together, our purpose is to communicate the importance of children and of work with children at a parish and diocesan level. We are there to learn from what is already happening, so that good practice can be shared, to advise and support, and to bring people together so that we can be inspired by what God is doing across the diocese.
As parishes across the diocese move forward with Mission Action Planning, our aim is to ensure that each parish remembers children are an essential part of that mission.
