David Waters was born in Borden, Kent. For eighteen years he was a shepherd on the North Downs with a flock of over two thousand sheep in his care.

During this time he had to cope with the Great Storm of 1987 and some very cold winters with deep snow falls and freezing weather. He spent some nights during these frozen times trying to save his sheep from hypothermia, and sharing his bath with a 500-metre long hosepipe so that his sheep could have a fresh water supply the next morning.

David is a Church Army Captain and has worked for the Diocese of Ely since 1994.

He has served as parish evangelist in Soham and built up a large schools ministry in the Yaxley deanery where he led over 100 school assemblies per term. Since November 2000, he has been our youth officer. Throughout this time, David has also been involved in national children's events, beach missions and holiday clubs in the U.K.

David has been instrumental in the huge rise in number of teenagers attending our diocesan youth event, 'Rave in the Nave'. He also leads three big diocesan youth events every year and helped many churches in the diocese to set up and run their own youth group.

David encourages all churches with youth groups to include some form of Christian input or spiritual reflection during the meetings. Whilst David accepts the need to work with secular youth agencies, his main calling is to assist young people to share and live out their Christian faith.
