The Mothers’ Union
The Mothers' Union (MU) is the UK's largest Christian charity. Our purpose is to be specially concerned with all that strengthens and preserves marriage and Christian family life. As an Anglican-led worldwide organisation, we have more than 3.6 million members in 76 countries.
In the Diocese of Ely we actively seek to provide support and care for families, both in local communities and through our links around the world. Through our work people can experience the love of Christ, and discover or develop a personal relationship with God.
Caring for families in this diocese involves us in, for instance:
- Running Parenting groups
- Providing holidays for stressed families
- Cambridge & Ely Child Contact Centres
- Visitors' Centre at Littlehey Prison
- Cambridge Women's Aid and Huntingdon Refuge
- Provide Parent & Child marquees at local country show
- Knitting and sewing projects for hospital specialist baby units
- Continuing to promote the ‘Bye Buy Childhood’ Campaign
Through prayer and fellowship we in the Diocese support members in six linked dioceses – Juba, Maridi, Yambio & Yei in Sudan and Kigali in Rwanda and Ogoni in Nigeria.

NOW AVAILABLE – a softback edition of The Book of Inspiration!
Last year the Book of Inspiration travelled round every MU Branch in the Diocese. Members contributed photos, stories, poems and prayers about when their Branch was formed, what the Branch does now and how it helps in its community. The Book was taken from Branch to Branch by all kinds of transport – in the picture below it’s being delivered by bicycle! The Book is a fascinating picture of the Mothers’ Union in Ely in 2012 (the year of the Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics!). The original document has now been published for sale to members and the public – a real bargain at £17 per copy.
To obtain your copy, please email the Ely Diocesan Mothers’ Union at mu@office.ely.anglican.org.
