Environment and sustainable development
Social justice and the environment are very closely linked. Often environmental problems have a greater impact on the poor of the world than on the rich, one of the points emphasised in Sir Nicholas Stern's review of climate change. For example the reports "Up in Smoke" (available from the coalition website) give details from various regions of the globe.
The development agencies often highlight environmental concerns. At the time of compiling the following links led to the special pages at the following agencies:
Christian Aid
Their main site is at www.christianaid.org.uk/climatechange/.
They run several campaigns and have published many reports. Please go to their website for further information.
Tearfund
has their main British page on the subject at Climate change and disasters.
CAFOD
is running the Unearth Justice campaign on mining etc www.cafod.org.uk/get_involved/campaigning/unearth_justice. Their climate change page is here. CAFOD also have resources for schools on the environment and development.
World Development Movement
This organisation, originally founded by churches, has a particular concern for climate change. Please see their website.
Development agencies and environmental groups and others have combined to form "Stop Climate Chaos" www.stopclimatechaos.org which is a site well worth a visit
Another important site is the Environmental Justice Foundation www.ejfoundation.org/
An interesting group helping young people to get engaged in this area is Roots and Shoots (founded by Jane Goodall) www.rootsandshoots.org/
