Diocesan Environment Committee
The Diocesan Environment Committee comprises people with environmental expertise and a particular interest in local issues. Their main project is to encourage parishes and deaneries to put the environment on their agenda.
Building on the work already going on in churches, the Committee wants to encourage people to enjoy and care for God's creation. Often people want to do more but are puzzled as exactly how to go about it - this is where our Committee can help, for instance by building up resources.
We particularly want to hear from individuals and churches about their successes and the work they would like to do.
The
Group's chair, the Revd Nigel Cooper, a biologist and chaplain to Anglia Ruskin University, East Rd, Cambridge CB1 1PT.

Copenhagen countdown and beyond...…
From the 7th December for 11 days leaders of the nations will gather in Copenhagen to take decisions on Climate Change. Realistically it is unlikely that Copenhagen will meet the diverse expectations around. Climate change and how we should respond to it is therefore bound to reappear on the world’s agenda including our own for decades to come.
What then should we do next?
- Petition our own Government
You can download a petition form here. You can do this even if you have already signed a petition elsewhere. Ben Jupp, Chair of Ely Social Responsibility Forum, with others, will hand these in to No 10 Downing Street on Monday 30th November. The petition will also be available in Ely Cathedral from 20th November during the Archbishop of York’s visit to the Diocese. - Take remedial action yourself
But what and how? The Cathedral will be the setting for an Environmental Exhibition from 28th December for 2 weeks. Its theme will be ‘What can you do next?’ Why not make a visit?
