The Chaplaincy to People at Work
Policy Chaplaincy in the Diocese
Revd Stephen Talbot is the Co-ordinating Chaplain for Cambridgeshire Constabulary. The chaplaincy is provided through Chaplaincy to People at Work, an ecumenical charity based in Cambridge.
Chaplaincy is being introduced nationally to provide care to members of the Police Service and their families, and to help them handle the increasingly complex and demanding nature of their work. The aim is to be available to provide independent confidential support to people of all faiths or none. The team is ecumenical and the police wish to have diverse faiths and denominations represented..
There are currently seventeen volunteer chaplains who have been vetted, interviewed and trained, and are visiting stations throughout the county, building up relationships of trust. Their area is very diverse; urban and rural patches have different needs. Each chaplain has an individual agreement negotiated with the relevant local police staff, in which expectations for frequency of visits are detailed. Most of the time is spent as a ‘listening ear’ . If you would like to know more, please contact Revd Stephen Talbot. You may wish to download the documents below to learn more as to what the role involves.
