Last year's Ely DA Training Day (Towards Better Practice Nights) was for everybody. You may think that a day on teaching bell handling is just for a restricted group of reasonably competent ringers, who are about to move on to teaching, either through force of circumstances, or through natural inclination. Think again! This Training Day will not be a "them & us" course. I need everyone, from novices through to experts in teaching, to share and develop best practice. There will be a structure, so that any novice should go away with one way to start teaching, and the confidence to have a go. Such teaching is very personal, however, and there is no one best method. Even the most experienced among us can learn from each other. Also, those (50) of us who attended last year found that the benefit extended beyond the overt subject matter of the course. The chance to get together with others facing similar problems is not to be missed! In the morning, presenters will cover practical matters such as bell silencing and safety, and present an approach, which they have found to work in practice. These sessions will be interactive, and contributions and questions will be welcomed. In the afternoon, we will attempt to put some of the ideas into practice in supervised training sessions. We hope to use a mixture of acting and real novice learners for the practical demonstration and supervised training sessions. If you would like to bring a novice, I should like to discuss that with you. Please indicate this when you register. No tower can survive if it does not recruit and train its own ringers. On that basis, every practising tower in the Association should send someone - either with experience, to share ideas, or to take on the important task of teaching. Programme | |||||||
